PreK-4
The curriculum introduces the four year olds to phonics, language, handwriting, poetry, numeracy, developmental skills, Bible stories, music, and arts and crafts.
Phonics
Beginning phonics and reading skills are introduced. Students will recognize the five vowels and their short and long sounds as well as the 21 consonants. They will learn the early stages of sentence structure- capitalize the beginning of a sentence, period ends the sentence.
Language
Language provides a delightful way for children to expand their language skills as they learn new vocabulary, increase listening skills as they hear new information and answer questions and strengthen motor skills.
Numbers
Children learn to recognize and understand the concepts of numbers. By the end of the year they will be able to count from 1 to 100, recognize numbers and write numbers 1-20, distinguish before and after numbers, answer simple combinations, develop concepts of patterning and sequencing using colors, shapes, and numbers.
Bible
Students will learn about God and His Son, Jesus. Selected Old and New Testament lessons are presented. Events surrounding the first Thanksgiving, the birth of Christ and Christ's resurrection are taught.
Poetry
Children will be acquainted with a wide variety of good poetry through classroom recitation. They learn simple rhymes coupled with finger actions. Students will develop use of appropriate expression and increase comprehension through questions that encourage listening.
Music
Presents students with traditional, patriotic, and learning songs that have delighted children for years and make for a lovely addition to the classroom.
Arts & Crafts
Provides children with bright, colorful projects which include coloring, painting, cutting, and gluing. Practicing these skill will aid in the development of small-muscle coordination.
Handwriting
Students practice tracing and progresses to writing both uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet. By the completion of the school year they are able to write blends and words.
Developmental Skills
Listening skills and motor coordination through activities such as following instruction, coloring, cutting, and directed drawing are developed. Free art not only allows children to create original work, but also develops visual perception and motor skills.
